Supporting Rangatahi beyond concussion
Concussion is a common but often under-recognised injury that can affect a young person’s learning, wellbeing, behaviour, and participation in sport and everyday activities.
This dedicated child and young person focused concussion assessment and triage recovery programme, delivered by Auckland Neurorehabilitation Specialists (ANS), provides a proactive, medically led pathway to support students following a head injury.
Through early identification, specialist assessment, education, and coordinated recovery planning, the programme helps students, whānau, and schools understand concussion and navigate recovery with confidence.
Our goal is to support safer recovery, maintain educational continuity, and help every student return to the activities that matter to them.
Who is this program for?
Support following a suspected or confirmed concussion, whether the injury occurred during sport, at school, or in everyday life.
Students and rangatahi
A clear pathway for identifying injuries, accessing clinical advice, and supporting students throughout recovery.
Schools and school health teams
Education, guidance, and coordinated communication to help support recovery at home and at school.
Whānau and caregivers
Why early Concussion support matters.
Concussion can affect more than sport. Students may experience headaches, fatigue, dizziness, difficulties with concentration and memory, changes in mood, or reduced tolerance for learning and physical activity.
Without clear guidance, recovery can become confusing for students, families, and school staff.
